So rawstory has announced the televised hanging of Saddam Hussein..  CNN is planning to air the public execution as well. 

What lesson is learned here?  Without assigning innocence to Hussein for murdering hundreds of people, look what we have done to Iraq in the years following his removal.  More US soldiers have been wrongfully sacrificed in Iraq than people killed on 9/11.  Tens of thousands of Iraqi people have been murdered, executed, tortured, blown up and shot to death since Saddam was removed.  As awful as he was, Hussein kept relative stability in the region.  Could he have been changed into a less brutal dictator?  Ask Moammar Qaddafi. 

I'm not celebrating this killing.

I fail to see any good coming from the actions of the US Government in Iraq in recent years and this death is not going to change any of that.  If anything it marks the brutal incompetence and lack of foresight shown by President Cheney & Vice President Bush.

I was just discussing this earlier with Jay...The US supported Saddam in the era when it suited them - under Rumsfield's eye - we abandoned him (like we did Bin Laden) when it suited our needs - the American public is so dumbed down, if they only could awaken from their stupor...

Yes it is crazy how little we as Americans know about our own government's actions in recent history. Hussein working with the CIA? *poof* down the memory hole.

I just feel so much safer now that nobody will be able to threaten me with non-existent WMDs using his name anymore. Was he a bad person? Yes. Did we have any justification to topple his sovereign reign? No.

I thought we were a civilised people. I don't know coming from a european background and now living in australia where the death penalty is viewed with disdain, I was sickened to hear about the execution.

I knew it would happen, victors justice and all, but I wished I would see justice served not this farce.

Hussein murdered thousands himself, possibly more than the casualties in this war. I am against the death penalty, but you must at least recognize that the sentence is imposed by Iraqis, not by us. I think he should instead die of old age in prison like Milosevic.

When it comes to politcs I really don't agree with a lot of what you say, (Though I still value your oppinions), however this is not one of those times. I agree completely with what you said in this post. America is that last country to point the finger at anyone.

I can just picture Bush and his buddies gleefully rubbing their hands together as they watch the hanging live on TV, safely behind closed doors. I guess he finally was able to finish what his daddy couldn't.

My question? Who's next? The wacko in Iran or the wacko in North Korea?
