little bit of good news, advice sought

So my car is finally paid off as of yesterday.   Of course now I have a zillion dollars in school loans due.

I like php/mysql development but I'm finding that we're often viewed as temporary solutions, sometimes hired as contract workers sometimes employees.   I'm so tired of worrying about my future, I want to find something to do where I know hard work will result in relative job security.   Fast, accurate coding is what everyone wants but give it to them and well after you're done no more work on the horizon, nothing to do , so sorry,  good luck!  I despise contract work, hate the thought of having to find a new "employer" every few months.   I want one job that will last, not 10/yr.

So, having said all of that.. I'm 5 credit hours from a 2-year associates degree.  My goal is to complete that degree this year.   After that I would be eligible to enroll at Kennesaw State (not Emory, or GSU due to grades).

I'm 37 and I guess young enough to change careers?   Should I resolve to go to 4-year school to take science/healthcare courses, or pick up Education classes again?

Well, I guess my answer to that question is another question. What are you most passionate about? Is there a particular reason that you stopped taking ed classes in the past (other than circumstances)?

I certainly understand the desire for something more stable. And I really don't think it's too late to change carrers. Out of curiosity, what did you want to teach? Your background would certainly be helpful if you wanted to teach technology courses.

What am I passionate about? Helping others, especially those from unwelcome homes. I'd love to have a job teaching computer somethingoranother in an alternative school where I could dress however i wanted. Dream job. Reality? hm. still teach technology, probably secondary level. Maybe younger kids.. haven't spent enough time around them yet. I might like teaching science to younger kids too.

Hmmm... If you want to help children from unwanted homes, teaching in the inner city is certainly an option. My significant other is a speech language pathologist who works with pre-schoolers and grade schoolers. The environments that these kids come from in the pre-school is unreal. She loves the little tykes, but also knows at the end of the day many have to go home to terrible environments. I've not seen her in action, but apparently they really cling to her. Perhaps that's a sign that the love for them they find in her makes a difference.

Anyway, point being: You would certainly have the opportunity to work with the disadvantaged and unwanted in the public school systems. It would be hard work (esp. emotionally), but you would also touch lives that way.

What about teaching music and tech/science? (I'm actually surprised you didn't put music down.)

Maybe I should.. I've never learned how to read music hence it not being in my list. I love music though, so maybe I need to add it with the stipulation that I take a few classes and learn the basics.
