Check out Galileo, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Shame On You, Least Complicated, and Kid Fears. Warning: Kid Fears is a duet with Michael Stipe. Pick up "1200 Curfews", it's a live cd but it's got a lot of really good songs on it. Retrospective is a good one to start with as well.
