"Potential" in real estate ads

A house I saw is listed at 80k.. previously sold on the market for 150k in 2008, and 190k several years before that. The description says "potential, blah blah blah". The exterior and property look a little unkempt, but in average condition for the neighborhood.

Is potential a keyword for "rat infested, poltergiest inviting, hellhole -- stay far away"? Or does it imply expensive repairs.. or does it just mean it's average?

I may go and see the inside next week.. but curiousity is getting the better of me.

Potential

Means everything but "ideal." That said, 80K isn't much. Looking at the tax assessor's records online can tell you a lot about the rise and fall of the house and its owners.

You are making me curious too. I used to love crawling around in houses with potential--it's why I could finally live in one with "lots of potential."

Do you know if it has been empty for long?

Well I had spirits at my last apartment on Moreland.. I'd prefer not having them again!

I don't know any of the history yet.
