You know, I used to think "buy America" was a sham (and it still is if you believe Wal Mart's propaganda) but with the increasing numbers of layoffs and outsourced jobs to India, China and elsewhere I'm changing my tune. It's nice knowing a small number of corporations are interested in the future of our country (as opposed to their own bank accounts and little else).

PS: I found a link about NB and other domestic shoe makers:

New Balance Shoes (NewBalance.com)
Five NB(New Balance)-owned and operated facilities in US, & 6th facility in California owned by foreign suppliers, that mow assembles shoes exclusively for New Balance. NB adding 109,000 square feet to our Lawrence distribution center in 2001. Despite expansions, domestic manufacturing capacity has not been able to keep up with overall demand and NB has had to rely more heavily on sub-contracted overseas factories. While the overall percentage of shoes made in this country has decreased and the percentage made overseas has increased, it's important to realize that overall domestic manufacturing jobs and production has increased significantly.
Since 1995 NB has added more than 500 manufacturing and distribution center jobs in the USA, representing a 65% increase in employment and 100% increase in domestic shoe production.
Currently, domestic production accounts for 25-30% of overall production. The ongoing NB goal is to increase percentage of domestic production.
