For years I have refused to support the HRC, because they would ask the transgender community for financial support then refuse to suppoort transgender inclusion in equal rights legislation. I vividly remember the HRC fundraiser in New Orleans being under threat of boycott one year and it took the director of the HRC making promises to change things to stop it.
Of course, they took our money then ignored our needs.
I will admit that the HRC has changed in the last few years, for the positive. But it was a struggle-one that we should not have had to have fought. Not with a group that is supposed to be about equal rights for all GLBT people...
If we can't get acceptance among people who should do so openly, how can we get the rest of the country to accept us?
