Never fails to amaze me

Despite the wonderful gains LGBT folk have made over the last several decades a small, loud and SHRILL minority of gays/lesbians think the LGBT should be LG only, and the rest left to fend for themselves. Have any of these people read about the Stonewall riots? Do they not know the very movement they claim to be a part of was started by drag queens and other queerfolk, people who put their lives and health on the line so that EVERYONE would benefit from fair and just laws?

Fucking crazy.

For years I have refused to support the HRC, because they would ask the transgender community for financial support then refuse to suppoort transgender inclusion in equal rights legislation. I vividly remember the HRC fundraiser in New Orleans being under threat of boycott one year and it took the director of the HRC making promises to change things to stop it.

Of course, they took our money then ignored our needs.

I will admit that the HRC has changed in the last few years, for the positive. But it was a struggle-one that we should not have had to have fought. Not with a group that is supposed to be about equal rights for all GLBT people...

If we can't get acceptance among people who should do so openly, how can we get the rest of the country to accept us?

Apparently, some of us think exclusion is the best way to eradicate exclusion.

I know, that fekkik is one of the most shrill, hateful personalities I've run across on LJ. Last week she said that there is no such thing as FTM, these are WOMEN who have fallen prey to gender confusion. It's sick. But before judgement is made on the [livejournal.com profile] lesbian group as a whole make sure to see the user info page - the moderators are very trans friendly, very inclusive. "dirtywhiteboi" is very careful not to openly state her distaste with transfolk.

I wasn't criticizing the whole group, just the people who seem to be bigots. If I hung around the group long enough I'd probably be okay with them...

I read a few new posts in that thread this afternoon and was pleased to see many others speak up for tolerance and inclusion. but the others.. wow they leave such a nasty taste in my mouth!

What gets me is why we, as trans people, continue to give this lot our support when so many times the reverse is NOT true, and we get kicked in the head.
