The AP on ACORN accusations by McCain

McCain is correct that at least a handful of ACORN canvassers are currently being investigated across the country by local officials on suspicion of submitting false registration cards, some with names like "Mickey Mouse" or "Donald Duck."

But in alleging voter fraud, McCain goes too far. To commit fraud, a person would have to show up on Election Day with identification bearing the fake name.

They also hardly ever mention that ACRON has turned in these people themselves.

I'm sure ACORN has a perfectly reasonable explanation for why they're stuffing the registrations, and I'm sure they'll explain themselves real soon now.

ACORN turned the violators in themselves. ACORN as an organization did not participate in these activities. Nobody has been arrested, no votes were cast under the wrong names.

On the other hand, two days ago a GOP businessman was arrested and charged with voter fraud for changing D's to R's on cast ballots. I guess that is OK since it was beneficial to Republicans.

Link for story about GOP Voter Registration Chief being arrested: http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/20/republican-voter-registration-chief-arrested-fraud-california/

Crime: falsifying information so he could vote in a different state.

He did not turn himself in, he was caught. ACORN on the other hand turned their own people in as soon as they found out about it.

McSame's accusations against ACORN. Tempest in a teapot.
