Sad.

So do you remember David Reimer from your psych books? He was the kid who lived most of his childhood as a girl after an accident during circumcision. Psychologist John Money decided to use Reimer's experience to prove his theory that gender is a product of our surroundings.

Well after many years Money seemed to be right but by the time Reimer reached adolescence clear she was depressed and unhappy living as Janet. By early adulthood she decided to stop taking hormones and live as David.

David Reimer lived for many more years as a man, however he obviously was still scarred by it all. After a lifelong struggle with finding peace he unfortunaately took his life last Tuesday.

I doubt his death will cause society to look at gender variant people any differently, although it should. He's not the only one to have committed suicide after struggling with gender issues all of his life. And he probably won't be the last.
