the question for today...
May. 15th, 2004 09:38 amWhy am I up so fucking early after being out so fucking late?
Last night was ok. I picked up
skelebitch and
fiendmorte and we drove to the Masquerade, which was a ghost town. The band didn't draw anyone and since atlanta seems deathly allergic to non-ebm/industrial music few people were there... actualy just Paige, Dana,
aquaknot and myself. but i had a good time spinning nonetheless.
Afterwords we drove to the slums in time to catch two bands at the Neutron. oh.. i need to remember to update my directions on dead atlanta for neutron, it's upstairs & in front now, instead of in the back down the walk from the store.
anyway.. saw a surprisingly good punk band called Loose Screws. in my opinion good punk doesn't have anything to do with lame pop music played by bands like blink182 and good charlotte..bleagh.. Their singer's *huge* beer gut poking out behind an unfastened blue-jean vest was somewhat disturbing but he was actually very charismatic on stage, chattering with the crowd of 25 standing next to the stage.. the audience were an active bunch too, bumping and hopping over one another. Loose Screws played a funny rendition of "Living on a Prayer" toward the end of their set.
then Gotham City came on and played about an hour of pretty good crossover punk/metal. I'd never heard them before last night so I wasn't sure what to expect.. Gotham City's lead singer is Michael Graves, who also sung with the Newfits. His face was painted a little and his mannerisms were peculiar for someone fronting a modern hardcore band... but he didn't screech & scream the whole time.. i'd like to have heard his voice a little better but that sorta was buried buy the guitarist's huge stack. They were very tight and those who stuck around seemed to really enjoy them. I ended up going outside to stand becuase they were so fucking loud and I didn't have earplugs.
Afterwords we went to Disco Diner where we ate greasy food, listened to songs I remember hearing on the radio when I was a child, and plotted to take over the world..
skelebitch and
fiendmorte make such a cute couple :o)
fiendmorte is a lot different in person than I expected him to be.
upas was a little late getting to Collaborative, and he lost us on our way over to Neutron (sorry Josh I didn't have my phone on :-/). Dara called and said she was feeling ill and didn't come out last night.
so.. after 4 hours of sleep i'm wide awake again. just as well i guess because i have to run errands and give my most of my paycheck to evil corporations. fuck, ya know i spent $34 filling my tank up last week? mom said gas prices are likely to continue going up. yay.
ok i should get these errands out of the way.
