Saturday afternoon
Jun. 25th, 2006 09:26 amWell, I made it home in one piece. Surprise, I'm not really that sore today either.
Before yesterday I hadn't ridden a motocross bike in 4 years, so I went very slow. There weren't many obstacles I felt comfortable jumping anyway. Monroe received spotty showers recently (judging by puddles of water in driveways lining the road), but the park itself was bone dry. That's wonderful for cleaning up afterwords, but not so great for riding behind someone. Luckily I was one of only 5 riders, most of whom rode very little, so the dust wasn't so bad.

At 7pm the track owner(a woman) came over and chatted with Dara & I for a few minutes, before running us and the other riders off. While loading the bike I heard Dara say "uh-oh, we need to hurry". So we drive towards the gate and find that it was closed and locked! Dara saw the track owner drive away with us still in the park. Joy. I had to call 911, since i had no way of contacting the owners. Fortunately my cell had signal or we would have been in a real mess. A sheriff pulled up a few minutes later and stayed to talk with us until someone could come let us out.
My new Kawasaki ran well, although the engine pinged heavily under load. The previous owner still had 103 octane race fuel in the tank, so it wasn't due to low-grade gas. I need to send him and email to see if he ported the engine, since that would totally affect jetting. I think going a step larger on the main jet will fix the engine ping. But the Keihin carb is one of these electronically controlled things. So I'm going to research a little before doing anything.
It was an eventful day and I am looking forward to riding again soon.. who knows maybe I'll drive to High Falls later today, after Pride.
