Late Night with GOP
Jul. 29th, 2006 06:48 amThe republicans in Congress pulled one out of their asses last night. They wanted to get the estate tax repeal passed and since they knew the Senate has already rejected such a measure, they resorted to deception.
At 2AM this morning, the GOP passed legislation called "the minimum wage act". This bill does raise min wage, however it is a Trojan Horse. The entire reason for the GOP letting it go through is provisions to eliminate the death tax for ten years, at a savings of over 90 million dollars to the ultra wealthy in this country. Compare that with a paltry dollar raise for the poorest of Americans...
The GOP doesn't believe in wage increases for the poor - never have never will. This bill was only passed because of the Trojan contained within. Yet the AP already has a story trumpeting the GOP for passing the wage increase.
This midnight snakery is truly despicable, yet funny in a way. The GOP so often accuse democrats of pandering yet look what they are doing right before an election. I hope they choke on this.
