Most goth dj's spin choose to spin nothing but music written on PCs now. At least 10 years ago clubs made a weak effort to play a diverse range of music, now dj's cop attitudes similar to the above statment, thinking electronic music is cutting edge, the wave of the future, avart garde, whatever...
but they *always* conveniently overlook this annoying little fact...
Kraftwerk started playing electronic music -long- before punk rock became known as a style. They released electro albums way back in the *early* seventies! before punk was ever used as a word to describe music. and of course, long before the word "goth" became known in music circles.
Also, Human League released two singles in 1978 on FAST records which were also completely electronic, and they went on to record several EP's and two full-length records before they recorded Dare and became a household name.
There was also Throbbing Gristle, SPK, Bowie, Roxy Music, Ultravox, Depeche Mode, Plastics, Yellow, Caberet Voltaire, Gary Numan, Front 242, Skinny Puppy... and through the 90's and beyond with KMFDM, Electric Hellfire Club, Wumpscut, Leaether Strip, Rammstien, ect.
Not only is electronic based music -older- than gothic rock (and punk), you can't go to a goth club without being subjected to mostly electronic/EBM/techo music.
I actually like some variations of electronic music, and I agree that its just another way of expressing ourselves through music.
But please stop kidding yourself thinking electronic is sooo cutting edge and fresh. It's been done to death, just like gothic rock and everything else.
Sorry if I sound annoyed, but I feel its so unfair for people to imply gothic rock music sounds tired and old (whether or not you like it is beside the point), when you refuse to acknowledge that electro is just as old, if not older than gothic rock & punk.
