yes i know.. its having such long legs that exasperbates this problem.. i need a pair of battery powered heated socks (in addition to new pairs of tights, which I'm also in need of).

ps, i haven't forgotten about your reply to my SuSe question the other day.. i wasn't able to begin installing, and on top of that i bought a neww 160gb hard drive, so i have to figure out how to rearrange the other drives. I have a 20gig in this pc, which is to be my SuSe experiement.. but I may put an 80gig in it now.

If you're going to dual boot with windows, windows has to be the primary disk (/dev/hda1 in Linux terms..) then you can split it so Windows has part of the physical disk and linux has the other bits.

You could use something like partition magic to shrink the windows partition down so you can add the Linux partitions.
