my parent's old church in winder
May. 18th, 2008 10:49 pmlooking like it won't be a church much longer...

My most vivid memory of First Baptist Church of Winder is of a homeless man walking into service one Sunday morning. He strolled down the aisle and sat down in the front pew, and maybe started mumbling something.. he was probably drunk and wore a big straw hat. The preacher saw a golden opportunity and began preaching over this man, accusing him of being Satan and eventually having him escorted out of the building - right in the middle of church service. I was pretty out of tune with politics and justice at the ripe age of 13, but I knew what happened before my eyes was incredibly wrong.
