catching up from last week...
Turn Pale, monday nov 10 @ neutron bomb
I missed most of their set after not being able to find the venue (which was run-down and graphitti everywehre, the perfect setting). So I arrived in time to see just two and a half songs and what I did see was fucking great.
Turn Pale ditched the club's stage and played on the floor with the smallish crowd instead. Michael was very animated but the rest of the band didn't move around as much. their live sound is a lot like what you get on Kill the Lights, but better (unlike some bands who sound like shit on record and great live, or vice-versa).
I mean the band no disrespect but when I closed my eyes I briefly imagined Warsaw era Ian Curtis & Peter Hook & Brian Sumner being on stage in front of me... punk rock the way it was meant to be played.. Mostly indie kids were there because there were some other emo bands earlier on the set and I gathered after talking with Michael afterwords that Turn Pale is gaining popularity with that crowd.. He said they enjoy playing little clubs like Neutron Bomb because it let's them get closer to their audience, but of course he hoped more people would have shown up.
I wish I'd seen their full set but I really enjoyed what little I did get to see. They'll be coming back here in a few months. I picked up a t-shirt, 7", and cd to replace the one I burned from filesharing. all that for just $20 (I gave them $20 extra because I felt bad that not a lot of people came). he didn't say whether or not they were heading out west anytime soon, but they are going on a new tour in a few months so who knows.
It was refreshing going to a club nobody else knows about to see a decent band for a change. Even though I can do without newer cruxshadows on cd they are stillf fucking awesome live.. but cxs/last dance and bella morte are pretty much all that happened this past year in atlanta.. so. that made Turn Pale's show even better.
