My dad gave me a few pics from Pearl Harbor today, taken hours after the attack (he didn't take them). I'll post them later tonight, maybe tomorrow. War is never nice to look at, but some of these old photos have a strangely beautiful aesthetic.
I always feel an attraction toward memorabilia of decades past, back in the days where America had genuine character all its own. I love the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It seems that after World War II, the feverish grab for "stuff" made culture into something artificial.
