That was truly delightful.

I don't know. While this one is a bit amusing, the clip "Emo Assault Squadron" is too much. It has someone getting the back of their head stomped into a concrete curb. The girl I'm dating had that happen to her. She lost six of her upper front teeth.

Not funny.

Sorry to hear -- the more recent movie had better acting and was (to me) extremely funny.

The one you posted is better/funny but the other (with the head stomp) is just plain mean. I know my friend would freak out if she saw that clip. She is reminded enough of the horrible event as it is. Putting in and taking out her partial every day.

Yes, I see how the first one (not posted to this blog) could be disturbing to someone who's been a victim of violence.

Since I became involved in the punk (and later goth/deathrock) scene 20 years ago, I've only encountered or heard about real-life violence once. Or well, twice if you count the time I was locked in a room and yelled at military style for an hour --- but the guy who did that was a satanist, not a goth or punk.
The one incident I remember hearing about was when a gutterpunk named Sun befriended another gutterpunk whose name I can't remember.. I'll call him "Robo". They started hanging out and fucking shit up.. like most punks do. A teenage kid started hanging around downtown and somehow, took a liking to the two gutterpunks. These guys were in their twenties and even if they were high on god knows what, they should have known better to do what they proceeded to do. So Robo, who liked to get fucked up drinking robotussin (back in the late 80s it had all the "good" stuff in it), decided it would be fun to get this teenage kid hooked on the crap. Ok.. great. But what he did next was beyond the pale. While shooting up one day, they held the teenage kid down and injected vodka in his arm with a used syringe. The kid survived but was very fortunate.. could have killed him.

So you know what happened next? The scene turned on both gutterpunks as soon as word spread about what had happened. Sun got his ass kicked & face bloodied in downtown one night. He was a mess. Robo? not sure where he went.. he left town. Sun decided to have a go at it in Atlanta since Athens wasn't safe for him anymore.

Punks may appear mean and cruel (like in the video above) but most are anything but. We looked out for each other and took care of each other.. gave food to the hungry, of course including non-punks.. looked after homeless people of all ages..

So anyway - Sun goes to Atlanta. By this time word had spread there too, unfortunately for Sun. Some Atlanta oi skins found him and threw him in front of a MARTA bus. He was pretty fucked up.. never heard from him again.

So from my perspective, while the cartoonish "Emo Squadron" videos seem cruel, I know from experience that punks don't actually follow through with stuff like that. They may *joke* about hippies and beatnicks.. but that's as far as it goes unless they catch wind of a hippy doing harm.

Oh.. I also have a story about Nazi skins that used to plague shows in Atlanta.. and the str8-edge punks that used to beat them up. Maybe in another post? :o)

Anyway -- steer your friend from this video and the others linked from youtube.. sounds like she doesn't need to be exposed to it at all.

Yeah, I realize 99.9% of punks are cool (years ago, several local punk girls were nice enough to let me hang with them) and don't fuck people up, it's just such a disturbing image. Even in jest.

I'll shut up now.
