Tiny Tim's first record is such a trip!    When I was a child I owned (or my brothers did) a 45 of Tiptoe Through the Tulips, we laughed along to it every time.  Hearing it again brings a smile to my face.

Nico is supposedly on his first record somewhere but I haven't heard her yet.

edited, I found her on track 7, but she just whispers in the mic a couple times.

Do you remember when Tiny Tim and Miss Vicky were *married*, live on The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson? An event not to be equalled until the Sonny and Cher reunion on the Letterman Show, 20 (?) years later!

Did you know that their marriage fell apart due to his strongly-held beliefs that a woman should be just perfectly happy cooking and cleaning for her husband?

He was also one of those creepy pre-"rehabilitation camp" ex-gays.

I can't make this shit up.

I'm a writer. I know plotting. Even *I* couldn't make that up! Well, I could, but no TV or movie producer would ever buy it. On the other hand, The Osbornes had their own quasi-reality show, didn't they? BTW: Note a creepy resemblence between Ozzi and Tim? Same hair? Same shades? Maybe, same father, different mothers, like the Cartwright boys on *Bonanza*? And it's been said repeatedly that Howard Stern is the reincarnation of Tiny Tim's evil twin... Again, a *really creepy* relemblance...

i have a slight tiny tim obsession and have several of his albums and cds. might i suggest the album "girl" - it's very good. "live in chicago" has him singing ac/dc's highway to hell - it's fabulous!

I don't know who had what to do with the wikipedia article I linked to in my other comment, but the tinytim.com site is run by old friends of his, so the creepy ex-gay part is mostly likely true.

Yeah, as the story goes (from TinyTim.com), he had a relationship with another man for several years, but then cited the apparent conflict of interests with being catholic and being gay and supposedly just immersed himself in prayer and The Bible and all that until he convinced himself he wasn't gay anymore.

Of course, the site also claims that after that, he was nothing short of heterosexual, but a few sentences earlirier, the writers claim he was "compulsively honest" despite his notiority for lying about his age (according to wiki, it's been cited variously between 1922 and the mid-1930s; and my mother remembered that he'd give a different age every time he gave an interview. Obviously, he wasn't "compulsively honest", so I seriously doubt he was even honest with himself.

oh the man was a raving lunatic. he wore adult diapers, not because he needed to , just because. he didn't want to have to stop to go to the bathroom if he was in the middle of something... looooony. yet i love the man and have lots of his music.

Somehow, I cannot picture you listening to this!

heh, did you realize he does a pretty good cover of Great Balls of Fire? I'm so not kidding. It's not that bad.

Alas, I could handle only 10 or so songs before moving on to Roky Erickson yesterday. I guess you have to be in the right mood for Tiny Tim?

I caught an interview with him on the Ceeb years ago. He was HEAVILY into old music from the turn of the last century, i.e. 1900 or so, and could reel off a tonne of it on his uke. It's a pity that he was only known for that one corny hit, because he actually had a wealth of talent.

Neither can I, but that's mostly because of his personaly life:
